MCing103

Here is the lineup for MCing 103 on Wed May 25th. All acts performing should already know that no set should run over 12 minutes unless we already talked to you about a different length. Inevitably someone has to go first and someone has to go last. Order was picked randomly out of names listed on a piece of paper pulled from a hat. We do this as fair as possible as to limit complaints. Ideally we should star performances around 10:30 as long as the room is looking good. Bring your A+ game and come ready to rock the stage. Here is the order of performances.

  1. Joe Threat
  2. Pacman
  3. Jo Casino
  4. Bobby Capri
  5. Conswaggative Ent
  6. $olomoney
  7. J Bizz
  8. Castro
  9. Ayss Boogie
  10. Yung Spittaz

My Dartboard

Last year I detailed some things, people, places, trends, etc that I want to place on my theoretical dartboard for target practice. Obviously these are things I dislike(trying not to use hate….such a strong word) and could do without. Here is my latest dartboard…So let’s dive in….no particular order.

1. Rebecca Black and her song Friday. I shouldn’t be giving this link any love but since someone played it for me, I will play it for you

2. Fergie – she will always annoy me.

3. People on Twitter who are obsessed with their follower count. You have 40,000 followers…I could care less. Get a life off of twitter

4. Rappers (signed and unsigned) biting or remixing the hot song of the week/month/whatever. That shit is getting old.

5. Oprah – we know you own everything….learn some humility. Every time I’m in barnes and noble I see yet another picture of you on your own magazine. That’s vein.

6. Nick Minaj – when she makes this face I want to leave Earth and then the voice that accompanies it…WOW. I’m not “hating” which all her fans will say…I just don’t like her. Do what you do…Rape the world for all its money….just miss me with your songs

I’m noticing a trend…This list is female heavy thus far…I’m not bashing females….here go some guys for the dartboard.

7. Gucci Mane – no need for words

8.  All the new Miami Heat and New York Knicks Fans. Bandwagon much?

9. Reality TV – ya’ll still really watch this shit?

10. America’s obsession with celebrities…they have as many if not more emotional issues than our broke asses.

11. All Copy Cats…Mr and Mrs Me Too’s…and The One Uppers of the world….you suck

12. Skinny Jeans – on dudes….they just gotta go…and dudes my size shouldn’t have them on

13. People who have nothing or have done nothing to “hate on” that swear they have HATERS. We really don’t care what your doing….you’re delusional
14. Steve Harvey….when did Mr. Hightower become the hood Dr Phil?

15. The pigs from angry birds….how can some stationary objects from a video game cause me so much stress…lol

So there it is…my most up to date dartboard. My darts are sharp and my aim is impeccable. Peace.

PS. #16. Dudes who poke other heterosexual males on Facebook…I don’t need that love.

Tap Your Inner VCU

We could all take a lesson from what VCU has done in this year’s ncaa tourney. I’ve been to more VCU games this year than I have in my life. My girlfriend is a huge fan thus I got to experience the fun that is the student section at home games a few times this season.
Many times during this season this team looked pretty bad. Sometimes they looked unstoppable, and other times they were somewhere in between. Such is life. They were given an opportunity and when it mattered most they ignored the negative energy and put their best foot forward.
Of course they are a team and when one guy was having an off night the other stepped up…that is the true essence of a team. What we all can look at and apply to our lives is the mentality that no matter how bad things have gotten or people saying you can’t do something….keep pushing forward. Win your bracket in life. Defeat the power conferences that are placed in front of you in your life.
The Rams have taught us that anything is possible. Richmond,VA can be one of the most demoralizing and self hating towns…trust me i know…born and raised here. I often call it the hate-oh-four. But I love my city. Watching what has happened with both Richmond but more importantly VCU has been inspirational. The true underdog story.
If you are from Richmond and not pulling for VCU..you embody the mentality that has kept this area from greatness for a long time. Support locally. And learn from the inspiration these kids….some of them homegrown talent …have provided us through this journey.
Never give up on your goals. Sky is the limit. Most importantly believe in yourself and ignore the naysayers(or if you do listen use it as motivation).
I’m a UNC hoops fan and my boys lost but I’m RVA born and bred. Salute to VCU…Go win this tournament.

Copy Cats

In my opinion the American people have lost that drive to be original, trendset, break molds, and just push the envelope of creativity to the max. In music, films, books, arts, man just overall life in general….it just seems we’ve got complacent. The powers that be have created little boxes for us to fit into and we willingly let it go down.

What happened to the critical thinkers and rebels in society? Those who took the leap of faith and weren’t so concerned with what the next man or woman thinks. Who weren’t concerned if this so called concept of success was attained or not. Those who just did things because they believed in it or just wanted to try something that hadn’t been done before. We’re missing that.

I know it’s people like that out there but on a larger scale that attitude and sentiment has been systematically sucked out of the American people. Ideas of what should and shouldn’t be done have been engrained in our psyche from such an early age. The pattern our lives is supposed to take has been engrained in us from such an early age. Risk takers are actually looked down upon by many in our society and labelled irresponsible, reckless, crazy, sporatic. We need some of that spotaneity and reckless abandon back into this country.

From arts, entertainment, to politics, we’ve become slaves to the recombinant culture. (look that up…it’s a heavy topic). I’m writing this all to say this, look for a way to break the mold in your life. Take control of your situation the best you can and start analyzing the reason you are doing the things you do on the regular. Granted we have to do certain things to survive in this country….but don’t let that box you in.

Think critically about matters that involve you and your community and don’t just accept the status quo. Don’t fall in line with new trends in music film clothing or whatever it may be just because that’s what your supposed to do. Like what you want to like damnit. Create what you want to create. Just had to get that off my chest. I know I will be pushing forward to punch my way out of the box…I hope you all will join me. As always I end saying …..PEACE

A Face Like This

OK. First off  shouts to Mr Geter for this mornings blog inspiration. He and I both came across this blog where Ghostface Killah lists his 10 softest rappers in the game right now. There are some that are questioning the authenticity of the list….quick digression for my slower readers, that means did Ghost really make this list…ok moving on. As of press time to my knowledge there have been no claims from Starks himself saying yay or nay (yes or no slower readers).

Regardless the list is funny and can be seen here. http://rapsandhustles.com/2011/03/03/ghostface-killah-top-10-softest-rappers-in-the-game/

But that’s not why I decided to blog today. In this blog you will see another questionable face from the dude Drake seen here

A few weeks back I posted this pic of him as he watched Lil Wayne perform fresh outta jail

There is a trend…that’s all I’m saying. And there is one more pick I have to take issue with

Drake….smh…you know what I can even keep typing….PEACE

Breaking It Down

With the latest going on with our friend Charlie Sheen it is yet again obvious that there is nothing America loves more than seeing someone in the middle of a complete break down or melt down….call it what you want. Year in and year out we find our news coverage flooded with stories of Hollywood celebs who are literally hitting rock bottom in front of our eyes. Most of the time it seems that this coverage is more focus on exploiting the celeb for ratings than actually getting the person help.

And why do we seem to buy into it from a viewership and readership standpoint. Obviously they would not spend so much time covering it if we didn’t take the bait and follow the break down and said coverage of it so intently.

I’ve had to actually take efforts to “ignore” the Sheen story but between my reading of legit news sources, and my addiction to social networking, its basically impossible to get away from it. But Sheen is just the latest focus, in a few months it will be another star but my question is this; why is this the norm? Why do we buy into it? Why can’t we turn away from the train wreck all so often?

Don’t mistake my questioning of all of this as acting though I’m not guilty. I just want us all to think about the why’s of it all. What is it in human nature (or at least the nature we’ve come accustomed to it modern day America) to focus our attention on things like this when the news stories that are truly effecting our day to day lives are being ignored. More people can tell me about this Charlie Sheen issue than about the budget quarrels going on in DC. Just one example….think about it all. Again….not judging and not saying I’m innocent….just analyzing the why’s.

As always I leave saying PEACE

Slept-On Emcees Pt.7

Sean Price aka Ruck. Boot Camp Click representer and half of Heltah Skeltah (also 1/5 of the Fab 5). With solo projects cleverly titled Donkey Sean Jr, Jesus Price Superstar, Passion of Price, Master P, Kimbo Price, Mic Tyson….how can’t you love this dude. He is a raw lyricists and again has been in the game for quite some time. He has perfected his craft yet still attacks the mic with the same hunger he came in the game with. Much like Heiroglyphics I have love for the BCC and Duck Down Records for never “selling out” per se and staying true to the form of music they believed in. Never chasing a fad, just continuing to bring that raw hip-hop to the table from day one to present day. With his unmistakable voice, Sean P always stood out as one of the best in the click. I’m done talking….first clip…freestyle with Rock…..2nd…classic Heltah Skeltah

Writers-Block

Sometimes as writers we struggle to find topics to delve into and grace our readers with our perspective on said topic. I’m on my quasi lunch break right now and decided to google “hot blog topics” I stumbled across a page that asked various questions but #5 was the best as it always is (for those that don’t know #5 was my high school jersey number which was retired *brushes shoulder off*)

5. Is it truly worthwhile for mankind to spend billions of dollars exploring the universe when most of us can’t even find our way around the city without a Garmin GPS unit?

That really makes you think huh. I literally laughed out loud. Many people have argued why budget cuts to NASA are legit but this is a whole new perspective on it.

#8 (which is my boy Dematta’s old number) is also a very insightful question

8. Is there life after death, and, if there is, will I have to put up with the same assholes I do now for the rest of eternity?

I mean yesterday I was promoting spreading love but even the Dalai Lama, Buddha, and Jesus knew that some people are just pains in the ass no matter how kind you are to them.  LOL.

So this was a cheap yet funny way for me to post a blog today even though I’m currently being blocked harder  than a dude trying to holla at a fat girls pretty friend in the club.  Let that image soak in. Have a good day and as always…..PEACE!!!!

One Love

I generally am the Valentine’s Day hater but I have finally met that one that got me hooked. I’m done. I’m hers…and she knows that. She also knows that I don’t need a holiday to profess my love to her. We’re Valentine’s 365. But that’s not my point for this post.

My point is to spread love all day every day ya’ll. So far today the people in and around downtown Richmond that I have come across have been so friendly and caring. I just think it’s unfortunate that we wait for holidays to treat each other kindly. I call for all of us to really attempt to spread love as often as possible. There is so much trouble in the world (another Marley quote) already, all to often we face a whole lot of adversity. That’s why its important for us to go ahead and spread love.

Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love; this is the eternal rule.
Buddha (Siddhartha Gautama)

So Happy Valentine’s Day, but I challenge you all to continue to spread that valentine’s day love and spirit from feb 15 2011-feb 14,2012. Let’s keep this Love Movement going!!!!!!
